NFUS on the Future of Agricultural Support

THE FUTURE OF AGRICULTURAL SUPPORT – FARMERS HAVE THEIR SAY

Agricultural support payments in Scotland are primarily delivered through the Single Farm Payment (SFP) scheme. However, the way SFP is paid in Scotland is set to change and this will have great significance for the majority of Scottish producers.

Europe will put a new set of rules in place in 2013, for implementation in 2014. Scotland has the option to change the way the SFP is paid before this date. The Scottish Government has already established a group to review farm support in Scotland, with an interim report on the inquiry being issued in December and a final report in Spring 2010.

To find out what farmers and crofters want from their farm support system, NFU Scotland is holding a series of meetings to outline some drivers for change, and some options for the future. All members of the media are invited to attend any of the meetings listed below.

If you would like to attend a meeting, please contact Bob Carruth on 0131 472 4006 or 07788 927675 to arrange. Alternatively you can Email: HYPERLINK mailto:bob.carruth@nfus.org.uk bob.carruth@nfus.org.uk
