REID CONDEMNS SNP GOVERNMENT FOR TAKING BUSINESS AWAY FROM ROYAL MAIL

Alan Reid, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll & Bute, condemned the SNP Government for taking an £8 million contract away from Royal Mail and giving it to a private company.

Following the announcement, Mr Reid said, “I am shocked that the SNP are supporting private companies in cherrypicking the easy part of the mail business. All that will happen is that the private company will do the easy part of the job themselves and hand the expensive part of the job, rural deliveries, over to Royal Mail for the cost of a stamp. The private company will make a huge profit and Royal Mail will make a loss carrying out the rural deliveries for them.

“The SNP’s decision to support private mail companies over Royal Mail is another nail in Royal Mail’s coffin. Actions like this put Royal Mail’s survival at risk, and is bad news for people in a rural area like Argyll & Bute who depend on Royal Mail’s six days a week service.”
