Viking Play goes to Oban

Oban Gaelic Drama Festival

On Wednesday 6th May, the children in the Gaelic class at Bowmore Primary School went to the Gaelic Drama Festival in Oban, organised by Feisean na Gaidheal.  We left on the boat to Oban and although it was a bit rough we arrived safely.  We went up to the Corran Halls as quickly as possible and reached the hall just in time to go on stage.  Unfortunately, due to sea-sickness and sore throats we were short of an actor and Mr Oliver had to appear on the stage.  Despite this we performed our play very well.

‘Ruaig nan Lochlannach’ or ‘The Viking Raid’ was a play that the children wrote themselves.  Three Vikings came to Scotland, killed two Gaels and took two others back to Scandinavia as slaves.  Then three Gaels came to free them and take them home to Scotland.  Unfortunately, because we were so late reaching the hall, we missed all the other plays.

After performing our play, we went on to have lots of fun.  We went to the cinema to see ‘Race to Witch Mountain’, we had chips from the chippie, and we spent the night in Oban Youth Hostel.  We would like to thank Christine at Feisean nan Gaidheal for organising the whole festival and for spending the night with us, and Christianne for coming with us and for helping us in many ways.
